When the Covergirl XL Nail Gel was first revealed, I knew right away which colors I wanted to nab first: Bodacious Berry–a deep, succulent blackberry and Ample Apple–a juicy, tempting red. As pretty as they are, they do have their plus and minuses though. Keep reading to get the skinny.
Luscious Opaque Colors
What you see in the photos above is one coat of polish, ladies. That’s right. Just one coat of the Covergirl XL Nail Gel gets the job done. I can’t say enough how much I love the polish because of it’s opacity and high shine finish. It lays on thick and spreads easily with super fast drying time.
The drawback is that it doesn’t last long on your fingernails if you go without a base and top coat. I know you’re not supposed to skip the base coat but come on, I know you’ve done it too. Sometimes you just don’t have the time and there’s no shame in my game when I’m in a rush. I take ALL the beauty shortcuts I can when I need to look nice but I’m short on time.
As far as how long it lasts without the base and top coats it’s about two days if you’re active like me. And if you wash dishes by hand, you’re down to one day. But with a base and top coat you’re good for nearly a week at around 5 days. It’ll get you through the work week but you’ll have to re-up by the week’s end. On my toenails though, it lasts longer–up to three full weeks with no chipping or peeling.
With only 9 colors from which to choose in this line, I’m left wishing for a little more variety. It seems CoverGirl tried to hit all the basics which is cool but what girl doesn’t already have her basic colors? I’m crazy about all the colors though and I’m going to pick up more. Next on my list: Whole Lotta Guava and Haughty Lemon.
This is a great option for beauties who want gel polish but without the UV light. I picked these up at Ulta a few months ago at around $6 dollars per bottle. If you want to save a buck you can check them out here at my amazon store.
